As businesses prepare to return to the workplace, the hunt for amenity-rich space is on. Unsurprisingly, one of the most in-demand amenities is outdoor space. For teams eager to enjoy the sunshine and London’s skyline, here are some incredible offices with roof terraces and gardens.
When it comes to office perks, roof terraces are high in demand. According to our recent LinkedIn poll, they were listed as the second highest ‘dream office’ amenity. When asked: “What would your dream office include?”, 38% of 1,652 respondents said a fitness studio or a gym, 36% said a rooftop terrace, and 22% said a great café or restaurant.
The science behind why is pretty clear – we’re wired to crave time in nature. Sunlight, fresh air and greenery are all biophilic elements that bring us joy, help our mental health and make us more productive. In fact, one study has shown that 47% of employees feel more tired when they don’t have access to natural light or views of the outdoors.
Amanda Lim, Head of our Flexible Office Solutions team explains: “After a year of working together remotely, people are eager to meet up with their colleagues and just catch up face to face. Socialising will be a huge part of our return to work – restrictions permitting, of course. It will help reconnect us and re-establish our sense of team morale.
“Having the right space to do that is key. Based on some of the conversations we’re having with businesses in their search for office space, wow-factor amenities like roof terraces are high in demand, as they help shape the office experience beyond simply sitting at a desk all day. That strongly aligns with the renewed corporate focus on employee wellbeing and happiness; being outdoors can make us feel good. Exposure to sunlight, spending time in nature and getting fresh air can be the perfect reset for a busy day.”
