5 Things to Do in Aldgate and Whitechapel

The Aldgate and Whitechapel neighbourhoods have historically rich backgrounds. There is a lot of culture to soak up, and this part of East London has become well known for its food and arts scenes. The cultural diversity in the area is apparent everywhere you look, and it’s become a popular haunt for city workers and trend-setting hipsters alike. Serviced offices in Aldgate and Whitechapel give you access to some of the liveliest parts of London, which are teeming with talent and bursting at the seams with things to see and do.

1. Explore Brick Lane

Famous for its market stalls, street art, copious curry houses and the historic Beigel Shop, Brick Lane is one of the most iconic streets in London. A result of the influx of Bengali people to London in the mid-twentieth century, Banglatown, as it's affectionately known, has over 30 curry houses on a half-mile stretch of road. Famous graffiti artists such as Banksy and Ben Eine have also thrown up artwork towards the Bethnal Green Road end of the lane, making it a must-see destination for street art fans and foodies alike.

2. Visit Spitalfields Market

Continue up Brick Lane and you’ll find Old Spitalfields Market, East London’s one-stop destination for independent food, fashion and art stores, as well as live music and events. Expect to find antiques alongside artisan wares, as well as some of the best street food in the area.

3. Try team building

With so many attractions on your doorstep, you’ll be forgiven for wanting to step out of the office to show your team the sights, whether it’s to talk business or let off some steam.

Swingers Crazy Golf

Probably the last thing you’d expect in this busy part of town is to be able to get in a quick nine holes. However, at Swingers Crazy Golf, you can tee off on three bespoke crazy golf courses while enjoying street food and cocktails.

The Culpeper

Covering three floors and featuring one of the area’s best rooftop gardens, The Culpeper is an Aldgate mainstay with a critically-acclaimed restaurant, a great bar and even a B&B. However, it’s the all-year-round rooftop garden, which also doubles as the restaurant’s herb garden, that’s probably the best spot for you and the team.

4. Enjoy out-of-office meetings

Setting up your business in a serviced office in Whitechapel or Aldgate gives you access to many of the modern amenities that today’s commuters crave. Both Whitechapel and Aldgate are chock-full of food options and highly regarded pubs and bars, all just a short stroll from your office.

Leman Street Tavern

Affectionately known as LST, the Leman Street Tavern has everything you need to become your team's new local, whether you’re looking for the perfect place for out-of-office meetings or after-hours drinks. Not only that, it has a beautiful terrace for sunny days and its very own board room, complete with a 60-inch flat-screen TV, an HDMI connection and a range of bespoke meeting packages.

5. Work on your wellbeing

A good work-life balance is about more than just enjoying a meal or drink out after a long day in the office. Whitechapel and Aldgate have several spaces where you can get away on your lunch break if you’re looking to refresh your mind or find a little inspiration.

Whitechapel Gallery

Founded in 1901, Whitechapel Gallery, on the north side of Whitechapel High Street, is open to the public all year round and features works from some of the most significant artists in history, from Jackson Pollock to Lucian Freud. Wander round to get the creative juices flowing or to simply step away from the hustle and bustle of the local area for a few moments and recharge.

Green spaces

Just an eight-minute walk from Whitechapel Station is Spitalfields City Farm. With a herd of farmyard animals and lush gardens growing fresh fruit and vegetables, the farm is the perfect space to reconnect with nature. You can stop in for a coffee and snack at the Tea Hut, or shop some of the produce at the farm shop. Spitalfields City Farm is open from Tuesday to Sunday, offering the perfect opportunity for a wholesome lunchtime break — and entrance is completely free.

Aldgate and Whitechapel gyms

Sometimes you need to let off some steam - and the central location means serviced offices in Aldgate and Whitechapel are never more than a short walk, or run, from a great gym. The Elysium Micro Gym is a private space where you can work out on your own, with friends or with a personal trainer. Meanwhile, Victus Soul takes a more collective approach to fitness, offering 40- to 50-minute small group classes with a focus on strength, boxing and HIIT.
