_Powerhouse, Chelsea Waterfront: first look at luxury apartments in iconic Lots Road Power Station
260 luxury apartments lie within the former power station located on Lots Road in sought-after Chelsea. With its vast, elegant arched windows and 4 towering chimneys that soar 275ft above the Thames, the building is considered a cathedral of the industrial age, once powering the London Underground and thus the movement and expansion of the capital.
Once described as a "proto-modernist masterpiece", Lots Road Power Station was the building that kept London moving even during the Blitz and Second World War.
When it was built in 1905 by US engineer James Russell Chapman, it was the tallest building in Europe. Today, it’s the last of London’s 3 power stations to be redeveloped, bringing a once thriving building back to life with a renewed purpose.
The newly created residences are lavish living spaces designed for easy living in a fast-paced city. The reception rooms are spacious and light-filled, carefully blending existing architectural features with sleek modern interiors, courtesy of interiors architect Fiona Barratt-Campbell.
The kitchens and bathrooms are cleverly-designed to maximise space and incorporate top-of-the-range appliances. Meanwhile, the bedrooms feel warm and sumptuous with contemporary fittings and bespoke built-in storage.
"I was honoured to have been involved with the design of such an iconic building,” Barratt-Campbell says. "Having lived and worked nearby for so many years it is such a pleasure to watch it come back to life! We were very conscious of incorporating into the design existing architectural and historical features and references, and combining these to give a feel of luxury through materiality and integrity of design."
The luxurious apartments have top-tier amenities to match. As well as a 24-hour concierge, you’ll find a state-of-the-art health and fitness centre on the grounds, which includes a 20m swimming pool, sauna and steam room, and a gym set up with the latest Kinesis equipment.
Residents also have access to an exclusive club lounge, a place to socialise, relax or take meetings overlooking a magnificent vista of the River Thames.
Powerhouse is part of the well-established, exclusive Chelsea Waterfront, which also comprises two waterside residential glass towers. Now, all three buildings connect by contemporary bridges and beautiful gardens designed by world-renowned landscape architects Randle Siddeley. The secluded seating areas dotted with vibrant plants and water features offer tranquility and provide a perfect escape from city life.
Powerhouse, Chelsea Waterfront launches at the end of September 2022. Apartments range from 2-4 bedrooms, with prices starting at £1,695,000.
