_Spotlight on Weybridge

Weybridge is a well-heeled little town that offers the best of all worlds. Its bustling high street has a good mix of sophisticated shopping and eating, yet there’s also a slower pace of life on offer with riverside walks and cricket on the village green. All within 30 minutes of central London by train.

Eating and drinking:

Weybridge is well-stocked with bistros and pubs – some gastro, some traditional – that are popular with families and the area’s younger crowd alike. The Minnow on the river is a highlight both for the setting and the food, while The Queen’s Head and the Ship Hotel are two well-established watering holes that are busy day and evening.

Shopping:

The town is home to a good choice of independent stores, with interior design boutiques particularly well represented. You’ll also find the usual selection of high street names, so everything from the weekly Waitrose shop to luxury items is covered.

The residents:

Weybridge appeals to a broad demographic, from London families wanting more space and a speedy commute through to downsizers moving back into the town from larger homes in the countryside. Young professionals are also much in evidence thanks to the fast train into Waterloo.

The properties:

The roads surrounding the high street are dominated by pretty Victorian and Edwardian homes and older cottages. Moving slightly further out, newer and larger homes begin to dominate, particularly in Weybridge’s many private roads where executive homes on generous plots are the order of the day. St George’s Hill is notable for being one of the most sought-after, and pricey, private estates.

Schools:

St George’s Junior School and its senior school St George’s College are both highly regarded, as are Feltonfleet, a mixed preparatory school, and Notre Dame, for girls from 2 to 18. Weybridge is also close to two of the area’s most popular International schools – ACS in Cobham and TASIS in Thorpe.

Travel connections:

Just 24 miles from central London, Weybridge is extremely well connected. The train to London Waterloo is around 30 minutes, with the A3, M3 and M25 easily accessible. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are 12 miles and 30 miles away respectively.
