Why live in Widcombe?

My family and I have lived in Widcombe for over 7 years and we love it. It is a fantastic, friendly community conveniently close to the centre of Bath with a village-like atmosphere.

Our children both attended Widcombe Primary school and have many friends close by because of this. At the heart of Widcombe is the Parade where you’ll find a really good diverse selection of shops, pubs, and delicatessens, all adding to the community spirit.

Widcombe is also superbly situated for the centre of town with both the Southgate Shopping Centre and the railway and bus stations just across the river. 

Eating Out

There is a wonderful variety of places to eat, whether you’re in the very popular White Hart, (delicious selection of home cooked food and a stunning Walled Garden here), or The Ring O Bells, a country feel gastropub with flagstone floors and large tables with home cooked seasonal food.

Other pubs include The Ram and The Royal Oak, all with a very strong loyal local customer base. 

Shopping

Widcombe is perhaps best known locally for its now pedestrianised shopping area along Widcombe Parade, with a range of coffee and café options.

There is also a diverse range of local shops including the Widcombe Pharmacy, Widcombe Surgery, Bath Spa Florists, Kitchens of Bath, The Aga Shop, Ashman Jones Vets, 2 fantastic delicatessens and the award winning Flamingo Art and Gift shop, to name just a few.

Culture

Widcombe has a lot going for it as far as culture is concerned. A few hundred local residents and businesses came together to form the Widcombe Association. The Association hold an annual Art Trail, where numerous artists across the city display their work.

Knight Frank Bath has sponsored this event for the past 5 years. It’s a fantastic community event that really highlights local talent.

Other community events (that you’ll often spot my family attending!) include the Christmas Fair, Widcombe opera and Widcombe street party. There is also the Natural Theatre Company, known for their interactive street performances. 

Who lives there?

Today, Widcombe is home to people from all walks of life. With good schools, a number of local businesses and Bath city centre close by, the area has attracted families and professionals.

Types of property

Georgian townhouses of Bath limestone are definitely most characteristic of Widcombe, as in other parts of Bath, but there are also a number of Victorian terraces in the area too.

We’re currently selling a charming 2 bedroom townhouse on Church Street and have sold other properties along this popular road too.
